It is with a heart full of gratitude and love for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, and for the Cause of Christian Science that I joyfully submit the following testimony as proof of the healing, regenerating, and saving power of Truth as revealed in the study and practice of Christian Science. Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus made this statement: "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." For me Christian Science has made those words of our Master literally true.
During a period of my childhood my health was in a very critical condition as a result of a severe illness of acute Bright's disease, which followed a case of influenza. At the same time I was suffering from ear trouble, both of my ears being in a diseased condition and discharging, causing partial deafness. This ear condition was an aftereffect of another disease experienced earlier in my childhood, and from that time periodically it had caused me excruciating suffering.
To help me, the very best of medical attention in my home city was given. After our family physician had failed in his earnest efforts to bring me any remedy, my parents consulted three other physicians. In turn they failed, and declared my condition incurable because, they reported, every organ in my body was in a weakened and diseased condition, not functioning properly, as a result of my several months' illness. Death seemed the only alternative for my suffering, and for two or three days I lay in a come, hovering between life and death. It was in this condition that Christian Science found me. Desperate, my parents, at the request of an aunt, turned to it for help, and a practitioner's work was solicited. Thank God for the courage of that practitioner!
