I have had many wonderful proofs of the efficacy of Christian Science, but I desire to tell of one specifically, because medical science said it was impossible for me to recover.
My trouble was caused by an automobile accident. I had been knocked absolutely unconscious and was suffering from concussion of the brain. Two doctors told my folks that I could not live more than an hour, and one of them was so sure of the fatal result that he sent his bill in to my "estate." I remained in a semiconscious condition for about ten days, and when I did gain the use of my mentality it was so erratic that the trained nurse announced she could do nothing with me, and told my wife that she would have to call a psychopathic nurse. My wife, however, said she would ask her to try something else first, saying that as I had been a Christian Scientist for a number of years, if she would read the Christian Science textbook to me it might help. She immediately located a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and read to me for about three hours. I suddenly recognized what she was reading as I heard the words from page 44: "The lonely precincts of the tomb gave Jesus a refuge from his foes, a place in which to solve the great problem of being. His three days' work in the sepulchre set the seal of eternity on time. He proved Life to be deathless and Love to be the master of hate." These works were very sweet to me, and I said to her: "Oh, I thank you for reading Science and Health to me. I need it very much."
The following day I was sufficiently recovered to ask the nurse what had taken place, and after she had related the experience fully, I called for Christian Science treatment, which was immediately given. After four or five treatments I was able to handle my own case.
