I am grateful that we may listen to and read Christian Science testimonies of healing. For over three years I have been encouraged and benefited by these testimonies, and now I should like to add mine.
Five specialists in different localities failed to relieve my eighteen-months-old baby of a severe complaint that had increased constantly in six months. I was told by one of them that the baby would have to be X-rayed and operated on the following day for hemorrhage of the brain. Experimenting and treatment had convinced him of this diagnosis. My husband refused to give his consent because of doubt as to the outcome and financial difficulties. After several days of praying and struggling to understand why the child should suffer so, I decided to resort to Christian Science, of which I knew nothing. My husband felt it certainly could not harm the baby and would keep me from a mental collapse. Accordingly I telephoned a practitioner and followed her every recommendation. I borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, from the Reading Room and commenced to read.
In three days the child was sleeping and eating normally and our home seemed as if awakened from a nightmare to the bright reality of good. My own so-called incurable ills began to disappear. Heretofore I had been convinced that nothing could cure me, not even the three months' rest recommended by two kind specialists, because I was on my feet constantly with this baby and another child three months old. How gratifying was the experience of throwing away bottle after bottle of prescriptions, tonics, and salves that had been used for years, to see every need supplied by God, and to learn the practical and spiritual interpretation of the Bible. I had been studying and attempting to teach the Bible for fifteen years.
