Giving

In the light of Christian Science, true giving is a conscious acknowledgment of man's relationship to God. It is a natural outcome of this relationship, for man was created to express, reflect, and manifest his divine Principle, Love. Divine Mind is forever manifesting its own nature through spiritual qualities of joy, happiness, abundance, beauty, of which man is the embodiment.

How powerful is this true sense of giving, and how contrary to the human and limited sense of selfish getting! The understanding of man's inseparability from his inexhaustible source brings to light the fact that man exists to express that which is already complete and forever satisfied and satisfying. Desire to give is born of an indwelling consciousness of richness, a consciousness of the affluence of God and of man's oneness with divine Love.

In Christian Science the real man is seen to be incapable of needing anything, for he already has all. "Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine." Man is the manifestation of God, the Supreme Being. Where, then, is there room for anxiety, want, poverty, or insufficiency? These are false claims of mortal mind, or animal magnetism, which would delude us into losing sight of man's spiritual, everlasting inheritance, and would have us believe that we need something which God has neglected to supply to His own reflection. This illusion is detected and destroyed by the understanding of man's eternal birthright as the child of divine Love.
