Through the teachings of Christian Science I have proved that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."

In 1913 I had a wonderful healing. Previous to this I had been a semi-invalid for twelve years, during which time I had been under the care of five doctors, but as time went on I became quite unfit to be up at all. One morning I was feeling so much worse and so desperate that I decided to send for my doctor and arrange to have an operation. I was very much against having it, as the doctor had been candid with me, saying that he did not think I had the strength to pull through.

Only the day before this I had been pondering over a few texts from the Bible, as I had always felt that religion should help us in the time of sickness; but as I could not apply them to my own case I felt they could not have been meant for me. At this moment a neighbor came to see me, and I made the remark to her that I thought I must turn to Christian Science. I had not the slightest idea what made me say that, as I had not heard anything either for or against this Science. To my surprise she said she was studying its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and offered to lend me the book. I accepted it in a very indifferent way, and did not open it.
