With a greater sense of gratitude than words can express...
With a greater sense of gratitude than words can express I wish to share with all who are seeking Truth a few of the healings which I have experienced through the application of Christian Science. From early childhood I have believed in God, but until I took up the study of this Science I little understood Him. I was as those mentioned in the seventeenth chapter of Acts, who ignorantly worshiped an unknown God.
In 1924, while visiting in the Middle West, I became very ill with what the doctors said was a complication of diseases. These included acute jaundice, nervous prostration, pleurisy, indigestion, and neuritis, the latter in a mild form. After spending some weeks in a hospital, where the best possible medical help was secured, I was given a verdict which included no hope for recovery, but recommended an exploratory operation, at least to discern the trouble. Having had much experience in hospitals and with operations, I refused to consent, and in my desperation the "still small voice" of God spoke to me saying, "I am here—the great Physician." I immediately asked for Christian Science treatment, which my husband and son at once secured. The treatment given that day resulted in the healing of most obstinate constipation. At the end of the third day my daughter, coming from California, found me smiling and able to sit up in bed. In ten days I was removed from the hospital to a near-by city where, for the first time, I saw the practitioner who was working for me. The first three treatments had been given by another practitioner.
At the end of one week I was able to walk, ride, go to a Christian Science service, and be taken to a relative's home, where I soon regained strength, weight, normal color, and joyous freedom. None of the above troubles have ever returned. Since that time I have experienced many other healings—one a few years ago of a broken wrist, known to surgery as a Colles's fracture. A practitioner was immediately called, and within two hours the hand and arm resumed their normal shape without material aid. No bandages were used, no X rays, and at the end of eight days I was able to drive our large automobile with ease. This healing was very encouraging to me, as I had sustained a fracture a few years before and had a keen remembrance of the pain and long season of X rays, splints, and examinations.
