Oneness of Good

In "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 152), "'As in water face answereth to face,' and in love continents clasp hands, so the oneness of God includes also His presence with those whose hearts unite in the purposes of goodness." As Christian Scientists, we are not expected to evolve our unity with God, for this unity emanates from Spirit and is irrevocably established. Through Christian Science we are enabled to discover and demonstrate the oneness of good, which is the everlasting fact of all God-created being. From this basis we are required to repudiate evil arguments which deny our spiritual ability and right to discern and express our oneness with God. Nothing is missing in man's spiritual heritage, and nothing mars it. Man's exemption from evil is the corollary of God's exemption from material beliefs which theoretically contradict His infinite perfection. Factual contradiction of God, Spirit, is an impossibility.

Obedience to the law of spiritual perfection favors and furthers our infinite capacity to glorify God in spiritual reflection. Through the obedience which is divinely inspired and upheld, we "abide under the shadow of the Almighty." Pure thinking, genuine loving-kindness, are the very shadow or substance of God, good. By reflecting God we prove that the oneness of good is inviolate.

It is possible for each one to express goodness, health, and harmony, for all that exists is God and His manifestation, available to all. In this manifestation everything real is included, and from it everything discordant is excluded. Evil is but a false belief which Truth extinguishes. Our part is to acquire a spiritual understanding of God, and to rely confidently and gratefully upon the oneness of good every hour of the day.
