It is with the deepest reverence and gratitude to God that I testify to the blessings that have come into my life since I became a student of Christian Science—the truth which makes men free, and which reveals a God of love and protective power.
False appetites, such as indulgence in alcoholic drinks and tobacco, fell away years ago, together with a cough which had been manifested since childhood. All these errors disappeared before I could claim to be an earnest student of this beautiful truth.
I have received untold benefits, but I need only relate the following experiences which came to me through worshiping God understandingly, as unfolded in Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. During March, 1935, I was motoring with friends in this city, when a car crossing our direction, traveling at over thirty-five miles an hour, crashed into us. It was raining at the time, and our car turned sideways, but did not capsize. I was the only one seriously injured. When I got out of the car I felt that I was falling and sank down, as I could not stand. When I was taken home and put to bed, as I was unable to move my legs, I telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner and asked for help. When my wife returned home I asked her to give me my Bible, which I opened at random, and my eyes fell upon these words: "Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem." This seemed a wonderful message to me, commanding me to be alert and not to believe in the reality of the physical senses, thereby dishonoring God; nor was I to tremble at nothingness.
