From Letters, Substantially as Published

In your issue of September 26 there appears an item entitled "Tragedies of Faith," reprinted from the Sunday Pictorial, in which disapproval is expressed of those who put their trust in the doctrines of Christian Science.

The question may be asked, What is faith? The Bible declares that "faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Then how can faith produce "tragedies"? It is lack of faith that is at fault. When the disciples of Christ Jesus could not heal a certain case, they asked him the reason of their failure. His answer was that they lacked faith. He also said that if one had faith as a grain of mustard seed, one could remove mountains. When one's faith strengthens into spiritual understanding, one is enabled to emulate the works of our Master, who was the perfect demonstrator of Christian Science.

Few people seem to realize what faith or spiritual understanding is capable of doing for mankind; but the eleventh chapter of Hebrews gives us a wonderful account of what it has done through the ages for those who possessed it.
