The Law of Healing

In the Gospel of Matthew, there is an interesting account regarding the healing of a man suffering from palsy. His desire to see Jesus was so sincere that some of his friends carried him on his bed into the presence of the Master, who evidently was impressed with the great faith shown, for he said: "Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. . . . Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house." The man was immediately healed, and did according to the command of Jesus.

What occurred when Christ Jesus healed this man? That is, what change for the better took place with him that he became suddenly not only well and active, but strong enough to carry the bed upon which he had been lying?

Let us for a moment use an intimate example from everyday experience. A father finds his little seven-year-old daughter sitting at her desk with some papers before her. The child's face is drawn and her head is resting upon her hand, her attitude showing that something is wrong. Upon seeing her father she tells him that she is obliged to do some home work in arithmetic, and in a burst of sobs she says that she cannot understand arithmetic, that she does not like it, that she does not wish to try to work out the problem because the answer will not come out right. Her father, with a few kindly and helpful words, helps her to arrive at the correct answer to the simple problem. The little girl, knowing what the answer should be, also recognizes the correctness of the solution, and jumps up with her thought active and her face beaming. Her immediate problem has been solved.
