The Lectures
Introductions to Lectures
Harrogate, Yorkshire, England (First Church).
Lecturer: John Randall Dunn; introduced by Alfred Johnson, who said:—
Jesus of Nazareth, by precept and demonstration, showed us that the religion he taught and practiced was the unfailing way of escape from the world's bewildering vortex. This religion is no barren creed or dogma. Whenever lived and applied, it removes obstacles and solves problems; it gives access to God. Christian Science is the religion of Jesus in its purity and entirety, and with its "signs following."
There are thousands of people who had been condemned by poverty, sin, disease, and sorrow to lives of helplessness and dependence, but who are now living useful Christian lives, and are rejoicing in health, happiness, and abundance because of Christian Science. This Science rescued them, and solved their difficulties when all other means had failed. I am on this platform this afternoon because Christian Science has made these things possible today. It quickly healed me, many years ago, of a serious organic trouble, which specialists had said was incurable.
INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA (Second Church).
Lecturer: John Ellis Sedman; introduced by Mrs. Lura W. Broadbridge, who said:—
I was neither willing nor ready to accept Christian Science when it was first presented to me; in fact, I scoffed at it. Not until I had drunk the dregs of bitterest woe did I accept this truth. When I was told that God did not make me sick and miserable, that He made good only, and that His will was that I should be happy and well, a ray of hope dawned, and I caught a glimpse of the truth of the words in the first chapter of Genesis, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." As I became conscious of these truths and began to understand that health and happiness are spiritual qualities of Mind, God, therefore not controlled by material man-made laws, I was healed of curvature of the spine and its complications. I was also healed in due time of an abnormal growth. What Christian Science has done for me and many other despairing hearts, it can do for you.
BRANTFORD, ONTARIO, CANADA (First Church).
Lecturer: James G. Rowell; introduced by Mrs. Orma Leeming, who said:—
My first contact with Christian Science came when I was six years of age. The family physician had served his best as I lay ill with double pneumonia. He then told my mother that all material means of healing had been exhausted and that if she believed in prayer to seek all of this help available. My mother did her part, and a neighbor, who lovingly assisted her, took charge of the case at this point. Soon I regained consciousness and was healed. Later, by playing in this neighbor's home and visiting Sunday school with her daughter, I learned that they were Christian Scientists. This woman today is a registered Christian Science nurse.
By college age, I was attending Christian Science lectures and studying Science and Health. Two of my professors were Christian Scientists, and here I learned to apply this Science to everyday life, and found it practical. Many physical healings of colds, coughs, influenza, irritation of the eyes, and a tumorous growth on the wrist followed. What Christian Science has done for me it can do for you.
WHITE PLAINS, NEW YORK (First Church).
Lecturer: Frank Bell; introduced by Milton Hesse, who said:—
Countless thousands have testified to the healing qualities of Christian Science through its study and application. Members of my family and I can also gratefully testify that for over sixteen years Christian Science has met our every need. It has never failed to effect a complete healing for my family or myself. I was healed of acute neuralgia, indigestion, colds, grippe, and many other sicknesses, and was also instantaneously healed of the smoking habit.
