My heart overflows with gratitude to God for His revelation...
My heart overflows with gratitude to God for His revelation of Truth to this age, coming, as it has, in advance of the present world travail, as if in fulfillment of the promise, "Before they call, I will answer." In loving appreciation of our revered Leader, for her tireless labor to restore and establish the understanding and demonstration of this healing truth, I submit this testimony.
About fifteen years ago I first opened a copy of Science and Health. Reading the first paragraph on page 1 was of itself sufficient to convince me that I had found the perfect religion. I bought a copy of this textbook, and for a few weeks thereafter I read a great deal. Old inharmonies and nervousness gradually disappeared; and finally, being quite at ease and happy, I neglected to read except occasionally. Strangely enough, I had not thought of the application of Christian Science to physical needs. About this time I became subject to very distressing headaches; the condition became so acute that I was sent to eminent specialists in another state. Their diagnosis was tumor of the brain. The only hope they could offer was that a very delicate operation would give me one change in a thousand. They were unwilling even to attempt to work against such odds, so I came home, and in eight or ten weeks was completely and permanently healed through Christian Science treatment. All this occurred in the spring of 1918.
Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for this healing, and for the desire it awakened in me to dedicate the added years it has given me to such active service as would more adequately express that gratitude in this "greatest and holiest of all causes" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 177).
