[Original testimony in German]
For twelve years I suffered from a very painful complaint
For twelve years I suffered from a very painful complaint. After I had been treated by many physicians and had applied every remedy I knew, I consulted one of Germany's renowned specialists. After months of careful treatment I was discharged, but I was never quite free from pain.
Later I took up the study of Christian Science; but I made the mistake of paying a visit to the hospital, where I went into great detail with the nurse about my illness. The next day the complaint was again manifest, and in such a form as to alarm me greatly. Indeed, it gained ground to such an extent that even medical aid was out of the question. I was very much afraid of invalidism. However, I had learned in Christian Science that every problem torments us until it is wholly solved. I had a great longing to be free from this suffering, and decided to choose God as my Physician. This sentence from page 167 of our textbook sustained my thought: "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." A practitioner helped me faithfully with my work, and I shall never forget the state in which I found myself after her first treatment. The symptoms and pain were still there, but stronger than these was the blissful and quiet certainty that the illness had no further power over me. The careful reading of "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health, p. 468) strengthened me, and in a few weeks I was completely healed.
I have put my trust in God, as Mrs. Eddy teaches us to do, and for six years all my needs have been met. I have turned to Christian Science in the midst of household and business problems. When my children were ill, the realization of the truth expressed in "the scientific statement of being" brought surcease from pain and healed partial deafness. During a period of difficult family affairs, a sentence from a lecture helped to turn my sorrow and anger into steadfast, helpful love. It is impossible to tell how fraught with blessings this Science has been to me.
