Christian Science was accepted by me at a time of great physical need. Like the woman in the Bible I had "suffered many things of many physicians," but their highest understanding of their profession and their earnest efforts failed to give me permanent relief. Very humbly and meekly I went to a Christian Science practitioner, who first pointed out to me the value of our Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly; and I began earnestly studying them, also reading all of Mrs. Eddy's writings, and in less than six weeks I realized that I was healed of what one physician had pronounced tuberculosis in an advanced stage, others having diagnosed the case as something even more alarming.
How good is our Father-Mother God! It is of no consequence what name mortal mind attaches to a disease, since man in the image and likeness of God can experience only that which God, divine Love, creates. Gratitude for this beautiful healing turned my thought to a more consecrated study of Christian Science; and, as truth unfolded, my understanding grew. As I used each day the good that had been gained many wonderful and beautiful opportunities were afforded to prove God's loving care. I brought with me to Christian Science many mortal mind beliefs, but find that these beliefs are being destroyed in proportion to my desire for spirituality and may willingness to apply my understanding of the Christ, Truth. Some problems have confronted me which seemed almost insurmountable, but discouragement has never entered my consciousness, for my physical healing was sufficient proof of the power of the Christ.
While caring for one who was under medical treatment for influenza, I became a victim of the disease. Turning to our periodicals I read some very helpful articles, and then taking our textbook I affirmed what Christian Science teaches, namely, that since God is Love He directs thought to that which is most needed. I opened the textbook to these words on page 243: "Truth has no consciousness of error. Love has no sense of hatred. Life has no partnership with death. Truth, Life, and Love are a law of annihilation to everything unlike themselves, because they declare nothing except God." I read on for the greater part of the evening; but when I closed the book, the above quotation came to thought. During a restless night it was constantly repeated, and at five o'clock in the morning I woke with a realization of what Paul meant when he spoke of being "absent from the body, and ... present with the Lord," for, while again repeating the quotation, my thought was so uplifted that complete freedom was realized.
