Victor, not Victim
Often we hear some person described as being the victim of circumstances. Occasionally, we may even have thought of ourselves as that. Surely no Christian Scientist who in the Sunday service listens to the reading of John's statement, "Now are we the sons of God," could accept the role of victim! Rather let us lay hold on our sonship with God, which means proving our spiritual victory over every adverse circumstance.
Before we could believe that anyone is a victim of circumstances we should have to accept as real the counterfeit belief of material personality instead of holding the right concept of true individuality. On page 22 of "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy says of Christian Science, "It absolutely refutes the amalgamation, transmigration, absorption, or annihilation of individuality." And on page 11 of "No and Yes" she states, "Man has perpetual individuality; and God's laws, and their intelligent and harmonious action, constitute his individuality in the Science of Soul."
The Psalmist asked, "What is man, that thou art mindful of him?" Christian Science replies that man's true, permanent, and indestructible individuality is God's reflection, His expression. It teaches that man is protected by divine Love, informed by infinite Mind, enveloped in the radiant joyousness of Soul, governed by immutable Principle, maintained eternally by Life. Of what could man be victim?
