Christian Science came into my life about five years ago. With a heart full of gratitude I submit this testimony in the hope that it may lead another out of the wilderness.

From very young manhood I was susceptible to the liquor habit and its many accompanying worldly ways; and through this weakness I became a periodic drunkard, incapable of holding the confidence and respect of my fellow men. During one of my most protracted periods a loyal friend recommended Christian Science and made an appointment with a practitioner for me. I was hardly conscious of anything that was said during the visit, because of my condition, but after I left the practitioner's office the thought that registered with me was the Lord's Prayer. This prayer had been repeated during the visit. My healing was instantaneous and complete in that first visit. I have never had the least desire for liquor in any form since.

I was also addicted to the tobacco habit and there was no limit to my indulgence. The healing of this habit was indeed a hard problem for me, and it did not take place until I realized that the intelligence I reflected was the only power, and thus the former slave became the master. Profanity in its most repulsive form also departed with these errors. A severe condition of foot trouble, called heel spurs, has been overcome. My feet had been in plaster casts for weeks and I had used crutches for months at a time. Doctors treated me for rheumatism, but the last doctor recommended X-ray pictures, which revealed the trouble. This kind physician helped me greatly, but I was never able to stand on my feet for any length of time without the condition manifesting itself in severe pains. Since taking up the study of Christian Science this difficulty has disappeared, without conscious effort on my part.
