Forty-eight years ago I was healed, through Christian Science, of consumption in the last stages, after the physicians had frankly told me there was no hope. My brother (a doctor), and my uncle, with whom I had lived, could do nothing for me. As a child I had been sickly, and at the age of eleven I had been left an orphan. My mother had often had me read to her from the Bible, and I had derived a great deal of comfort from reading the Psalms and the New Testament, and gained from it the assurance of answer to prayer. My pastor and I often read the Bible together. One day when I asked him why I could not be healed just as people were when Jesus was here, he replied that there was something we did not have or we could be.

Years later, after moving to a different state, I heard of Christian Science, and the next morning went to see a practitioner. I had to cross the Mississippi on a ferry boat and take a street car to her residence. She came out and met me, and helped me up the few steps to the house. I said, "I understand you are helping others; if you can help others, help me." I went there fully expecting to be healed as they were in the time of Jesus. I had lunch with her and she gave me a treatment. Then I went home across the Mississippi River again and was not in the least fatigued by the trip. I cannot describe how I felt: I seemed to be in another world; everything was so beautiful. The next morning my husband vowed he would never take any more medicine; but while I was healed in two treatments it was six months before he was healed.

I am enjoying the best of health, and am very grateful for Christian Science.
