I owe a great debt to Christian Science, and wish to express my deep gratitude for all that it has done for me. My mother became interested in Christian Science twenty years ago, when I was a small child, and my health was soon much improved. I was healed of extreme nervousness and of a functional disorder which I had had from birth, and for which the physicians could do nothing. Through our own understanding and the loving help of a practitioner, I was healed of croup, influenza, measles, and a sprained ankle. When I was about thirteen, while staying overnight with friends who were not Christian Scientists, I began to feel all the symptoms of a severe attack of grippe. I realized how unpleasant it would be to be sick away from home; and then I realized that man is the perfect reflection of God, expressing complete harmony, and so it should be impossible for him to be sick. This thought was so clear to me that I said nothing to anyone about my illness, and woke the next morning completely free.

I found Christian Science especially helpful during my work in a university. I lost fear of examinations and was able to pass them very successfully. I was also able to shorten the time of study required for my daily classes and for examinations. Whenever I started studying I was forced to realize that, as Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" on page 475, man is "that which has no separate mind from God; . . . that which possesses no life, intelligence, nor creative power of his own, but reflects spiritually all that belongs to his Maker." I realized that I must express Mind, God, only, and that Mind is infinite, knows all, and knows it now. Patience, fidelity, and honesty are also spiritual qualities that man expresses; so I felt that I must do my studying faithfully, and at the right time. I was able to write out the answers to the daily problems in my many courses in mathematics ink, ready to hand in, with almost no mistakes; and my papers never had to be done over. In a course in differential equations once there appeared to be six or seven ways of starting to solve a problem, all of which seemed reasonable, but only one of which gave the correct result. Divine Mind was sufficiently expressed in my experience, so that I was able to select the right method first and to solve the problem very quickly.

An almost instantaneous healing of severe cold and fatigue was also very helpful to me. Another person's thought was very much disturbed and confused, and my own thought was disturbed on this account. Mrs. Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p.103), "In reality there is no mortal mind, and consequently no transference of mortal thought and will-power." I saw that I could not suffer from another's thought, and my ills disappeared.
