It is a joyous privilege to voice my deep gratitude for the innumerable healings and blessings I have experienced through the study and application of Christian Science. I am very grateful for training in the Christian Science Sunday School, which has enabled me to turn instinctively to our Father-Mother God whenever error in any form has been uncovered, and it has been a great joy to see these false conditions disappear into their native nothingness. I have experienced many physical healings—boils, severe headaches, and goiter being a few of the difficulties overcome. The last-mentioned condition entirely disappeared, and to me this was positive proof that no matter how severe or stubborn error may seem to be, it is powerless before the truth. When asked whether I had an operation, I can truthfully reply, "Only the operation of good."
I often wonder what I should do without the constant availability of protection which we may claim as children of God through the understanding of Him gained in Christian Science.
At one time while washing I began to feel very ill. I read the Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly for a while, and when it finally became impossible for me to read any longer I repeated "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468) and the ninety-first and twenty-third Psalms. I remember going over and over again the words, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me." Finally I was only able to cling to the thought, "God is here," and I declared that truth until I lapsed into unconsciousness. The next thing I knew I was on the back porch with a crowd of friends and neighbors explaining that I had been overcome by gas fumes escaping from our water heater. The lady in the apartment next door said she had come in, for she felt that something was wrong. According to their reports they had little hope of reviving me; but God was with me.
