In the February 9 issue of your paper a correspondent, in expressing his opinion of Christian Science, writes of it as a "supernatural cult," and a "Yankee notion."
Christian Science may seem supernatural or mysterious, but this can only be to those who do not understand its teachings. Mary Baker Eddy, a gentle, devout Christian woman, discovered the spiritual law of God which is applicable to the healing of all manner of sin and disease. This discovery she named Christian Science. Thousands upon thousands of people throughout the world, victims of all manner of sin or disease, have been healed through its ministry, thus proving Christian Science to be exactly what its name implies, scientific demonstrable Christianity.
Christian Science teaches that God, Spirit, is the only creator. Being the source of all, His creation must be and is spiritual. Therefore matter does not exist in reality. Physical scientists are beginnig to agree with the teaching of Christian Science as to the unreality of matter. For instance, Professor Fiske, formerly a lecturer on physiology in Harvard University, is authority for the following: (1) "All qualities of matter are what the mind makes them, and have no existence as such apart from mind;" (2) "Apart from the consciousness there are no such things as color, form, position, or hardness, and there is no such thing as matter." When world-renowned physicists agree in part with the teachings of Christian Science; when eminent physicians and surgeons bear witness to its healing power; when noted clergymen bear witness to its spiritual, regenerative ministry in the healing of all manner of sin, is it any wonder that Christian Science is growing so rapidly? Another reason for its rapid growth is, one does not have to wait until the hereafter to find out if it is of God. One can prove its teachings: and proof is undeniable.
