One page 132 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany"...
One page 132 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" Mrs. Eddy writes: "Divine Love is our only physician, and never loses a case. It binds up the broken-hearted; heals the poor body, whose whole head is sick and whose whole heart is faint; comforts such as mourn, wipes away the unavailing, tired tear, brings back the wanderer to the Father's house in which are many mansions, many welcomes, many pardons for the penitent." From childhood I suffered from diseases known as diabetes and kidney trouble. As I grew to womanhood and motherhood they seemed to grow worse. I had several physicians, but gained relief for only a short time. The last physician treated me for about three years, but at last he said, "There is no need for you to come to me any more; I have done all I can; the very longest you will live is a year, and possibly only nine months."
A member of our family, my mother, had been healed in Christian Science, so she asked me to have treatment. I rebelled, saying God had given the doctors brains to study medicine and heal all kinds of diseases, and if He wanted me to suffer it would not do any good to ask Him to heal me. I was very bitter because my little girl had passed on. Needless to say, my suffering was intense. At last I decided to grant the request, and went to see a practitioner. I was very disagreeable, because I thought the practitioner was going to talk of the God I knew. If she had not been so full of love, and reflected so much patience, peace, and kindness, she would have put me out of her office. After a visit of about two hours, I was so very happy to know the God she told me about that I asked for treatment, and had an instantaneous healing. This occurred over thirteen years ago. I was healed at another time of gastritis, and over six years ago I discarded glasses which I had worn for twenty years.
I may say here that a short time ago I met the doctor who had given me up to die, and he said, "You are looking fine." I said, "Did you give me up to die?" He said, "I would not have given a snap of my finger for your life. However, I know what you did; you took up Christian Science." I am so grateful for all these proofs of God's care.
