Evening Press

Your recent issue contained an account of an evangelist's sayings at the Ocean Grove Auditorium. In the course of his tirade the speaker attacked Mrs. Eddy. For a minister of the gospel to refer to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science in such a disrespectful manner is beyond comprehension at this time, when so many hundreds of thousands of people have been benefited through the glorious truth as taught and practiced by Mary Baker Eddy. Please permit me to state that Christian Science stands alone, and is entirely separate from any man-made theory, creed, or doctrine, and is in direct accord with the teachings of Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, the Founder of Christianity. Mrs. Eddy is not a faker, neither is her teaching Hindu philosophy, mental suggestion, or humbug, as the evangelist asserts. That Mrs. Eddy is the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and that her teachings are exactly in accord with the Scriptures, the following statement will bear out (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 126): "I have set forth Christian Science and its application to the treatment of disease just as I have discovered them. I have demonstrated through Mind the effects of Truth on the health, longevity, and morals of men; and I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles. The Bible has been my only authority. I have had no other guide in 'the straight and narrow way' of Truth."

The results already accomplished prove that Christian Science is the truth spoken of by Christ Jesus when he said to his followers, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The results or proofs above referred to may be investigated by any honest inquirer at any Christian Science Reading Room, by attending a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in any Christian Science, church, or by consulting The Christian Science Journal or the Christian Science Sentinel.
