During the summer of 1919 I met with an accident which proved to me with great force the necessity of rightly meeting with the truth all church problems. I was a teacher in the Sunday school of a Christian Science branch church. Through one of my pupils a condition was uncovered to me that I knew to be contrary to the Manual of The Mother Church. Instead of seeing the error in its true light, and as powerless to act, I allowed criticism to handle me. For two days I had much to say about it. On the morning of the third day I was thrown violently across an object, and the fall rendered me helpless and caused such pain that I was unable to assist myself. My husband began working for me in Christian Science; and I am grateful to say that help was received quickly, the pain disappearing.

Then began the self-examination to discover the erroneous thought that had been the cause of the accident. I soon saw that error had been brought to me for uncovering, but that I had made a reality of it. Then I began the work that should have been done days before in obedience to the teachings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, as plainly stated in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p, 444): "Let us be faithful in pointing the way through Christ, as we understand it, but let us also be careful always to 'judge righteous judgment,' and never to condemn rashly."

My recovery was rapid. The discoloration, which had reached from hip to foot, laceration of the flesh, and a lump all faded away without pain or inconvenience of any kind. The lesson learned has never been forgotten. What a debt of gratitude the world owes Mrs. Eddy for her untiring labor and love for mankind!
