In the Manual of The Mother Church our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, reveals the importance of testifying to the healing power of Christian Science; so I can no longer refrain from expressing the deep gratitude I feel for the joy, health, and harmony it has brought to me since I started studying, about five years ago. Christian Science has healed me mentally, morally, and physically, after everything seemed to have gone wrong and I was in a state of despair. I felt as if my life were finished, and had just got to be dragged through somehow. I threw myself into social work, working in France during the war, in my efforts to help suffering humanity and to drown my own unhappiness; but all the time I was full of resentment, and was often ill. The religion in which I had been brought up gave me no help, and I tried to find comfort in other beliefs, but to no avail.

Our Leader says in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 332): "The sharp experiences of belief in the supposititious life of matter, as well as our disappointments and ceaseless woes, turn us like tried children to the arms of divine Love. Then we begin to learn Life in divine Science." That was true in my case at the time Christian Science, which is indeed the divine Comforter, came to me; and althought at first I was slow in grasping the deliverance it held for me, it gradually dawned on me that here was the true Science of being. Then it showed me what a false concept I was holding of God, and revealed Him as omnipresent Life and Love, as divine Principle, which can be used to solve all our problems.

My whole outlook was changed, and my despair was replaced by great joy and a deep desire to learn more of this wonderful truth, so that I might help my fellow-men. By reading the textbook I was healed of neuritis from which I had suffered greatly for years. With the loving help of a practitioner I was healed of an internal complaint for which I had tried numerous material remedies. I have also been healed of seasickness, indigestion, decayed teeth, the need of wearing glasses for work and reading, faults of character, and many other things. My mother has been healed of a rupture for which she had worn a truss for fourteen years. This healing brought a great sense of joy, as it so completely broke down the belief that old age is a barrier to healing, my mother then being over eighty years of age. I have also been lifted out of a very limited sense of supply, and have had many proofs that God does abundantly give us all we need, when we recognize the true meaning of substance.
