When I first heard of Christian Science I did not take...

When I first heard of Christian Science I did not take it up for healing, but for a better understanding of God and man's relation to Him; and I immediately found that which I had been seeking for many years—the truth that makes free. Then I began to experience healing; for by the time I had read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, through, which required a little more than a week, reading only in the evenings, I found I was free from severe asthma, and also from indigestion. I still, however, suffered from a very bad hernia, which had troubled me for four years, some days so severely that I was not able to be out of bed at all. One night I was taken with a severe attack and was unable to get to bed, so I lay on the floor. I asked my wife to call a Christian Science practitioner. She very lovingly came and worked for me until three o'clock in the morning, when I had some relief. By the second day I was free, the first day in four years; and I remained free for one week. Then it troubled me again for a week, but since then I have been free for more than two years. This is the first perfect freedom I have known for over twelve years.

I am more grateful than I can tell in words; and I am trying each day to live the life our Master taught, and thus to prove my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for Christian Science and for the textbook which she gave to the world. I am grateful also for all the activities of the Christian Science movement, and that I am living in this age when the truth is being so widely demonstrated.
