One near to us was healed in Christian Science after several physicians could do no more for her. My wife and I destroyed all of our medicine (which was not a little) when we took up the study of Christian Science. In a few months our first child was born, and as we were new in the study we had much fear to overcome. It seemed as though my wife were passing on, but by the faithful help of a practitioner we were enabled to see the light. During this trying experience I asked the practitioner what I should do. He told me to read the ninety-first psalm and try to understand it. This I did, and I also memorized it, and have never forgotten it; and it has been a great help to me many times since. From that time on I began to read the Bible, which had been a closed book to me; and by the help of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I have been enabled to understand what God is, for I had always thought that God was a person. Three more children have been born under Christian Science treatment since, and not one of them has ever taken medicine. They have had most of the ailments that children seem to be liable to, such as measles, whooping cough, chicken pox, mumps, poison, and fevers, and all of these have been healed in Christian Science. I, myself, have been healed of fear and dishonesty.
One of the most difficult problems I have been able to overcome was that of supply. I have been made to see that God is our source of supply. A quotation from "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 307) helped me so much, where Mrs. Eddy says, "God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies."
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, for the Christian Science textbook and all of Mrs. Eddy's other writings, and for the periodicals. I am grateful for "The Life of Mary Baker Eddy" by Sibyl Wilbur, which shows us the many trials and hardships our Leader went through to bring this wonderful truth to us.
