The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Salt Lake City, Utah (Second Church).

Lecturer: James G. Rowell; introduced by Mrs. Ione Tyler, who said:—

God's promises are sure. The Bible is full of them. They are as applicable to-day as they were in Bible times. As we avail ourselves of these promises, we find them sufficient for every human need. On page 127 of her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says, "Christian Science reveals God, not as the author of sin, sickness, and death, but as divine Principle, Supreme Being, Mind, exempt from all evil." Many years ago this teaching was brought to our attention through the wonderful healing of a little child of diphtheria after all material means had failed. We then recognized that the God who could heal the sick and comfort the sorrowing was the God we needed. About two years later we proved this teaching practical in our time of need: I was saved from an early grave. Our thinking was changed from fear and discouragement to the assurance that we are indeed the children of God, and that He is always at hand.
