Nine years ago I was a patient in a tubercular sanitarium
Nine years ago I was a patient in a tubercular sanitarium. Two physicians had sentenced me to invalidism and the rest cure for the remainder of my life, after taking X-ray photographs of my lungs.
About this time my young daughter, a teacher in an orthodox Sunday school, became interested in Christian Science. Having lost faith in material remedies, she had been searching the Bible diligently for some understanding of God's healing power, when she came upon the sixteenth chapter of Mark, verses seventeen and eighteen. We learned afterwards that those verses have turned many to Christian Science. They had been read with unreceptive thought many times before; but this time they burned with a vivid meaning. When my daughter came to the sanitarium the next day she gave me something of this new vision, but I was fearful and prejudiced. However, as I was growing worse instead of better, I decided to return home and to investigate Christian Science. After the first treatment by a practitioner all my fear and prejudice had gone. I grew noticeably better each day, and in about ten days I realized that I was completely healed. Such joy and gratitude were ours! My strength continued to increase gradually, and in three weeks I was able to work all day and until bedtime settling a new home.
Since then we have had many, many blessings through Christian Science. An instantaneous healing of hoarseness, which seemed urgently necessary in order to fulfill an engagement, was an added proof of the unfailing power of Truth to meet the human need. I am indeed grateful that Truth is ever available and eternal; that it is for all who will accept and use it. I am grateful for the untiring, unselfish work of Mrs. Eddy, for the loving work of practitioners, for the periodicals, and for every activity of the Christian Science movement.—(Mrs.) Harriet Sharp McConnell, Hollywood, California.
