[Written for the Sentinel]

Love Divine

Thou Love that wilt not let us go
However far we stray,
Thou Love that shed'st Thy friendly light
Along our darkest way,
In vain we would from Thee depart,
In vain alone would go,
But Love that knows nor time nor space
Does all His children know.

In vain the heart would shut its doors,
Nor let Love's sweetness in;
The darkened mind would have no light
To cheer the gloom within;
But Love His genial, healing rays
Upon that closed heart pours
Until it melts in tenderness,
And opens wide its doors.

O Love that will not let us go
However far we stray,
We turn to Thee with childlike trust
To guide our homeward way.
