I wish to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science...
I wish to express my gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. As a child in an orthodox Sunday school I often asked my father why Christ Jesus spent so much of his time healing when we could not follow his example, and also why he treated sickness and sin in the same way. I accepted the fact that the miracles were to prove Christ Jesus' sonship with God; but that these were no longer needed did not satisfy me. Since then these and many other questions have been or are being fully answered through the study of Christian Science. Formerly I read and studied the Bible daily, but the orderly unfoldment and the understanding which is applicable to every need has come only through the daily study of the Lesson-Sermons. Christian Science has taken nothing away from the former study and teachings, but has rounded out, enriched, and deepened them. It has broadened and changed my viewpoints, widened my sphere of action, and is teaching me unselfed motives and aims in the service of God and of my fellow-men. As Mrs. Eddy so beautifully expresses it in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 265), "This scientific sense of being, forsaking matter for Spirit, by no means suggests man's absorption into Deity and the loss of his identity, but confers upon man enlarged individuality, a wider sphere of thought and action, a more expansive love, a higher and more permanent peace."
When I was growing up, my mother and I used to call the working out of God's purposes in our lives "the golden thread." Now I know this golden thread to be the Christ, Truth, made manifest in our lives through applying the teachings of Christian Science.
Not only has Christian Science helped me in ways such as these, but the study of Christian Science has brought with it a general betterment of bodily conditions. From a rather frail child I have grown into nearly perfect health, leaving behind high nervous tension and other conditions that were inharmonious. I am learning to do my work with less fatigue as I realize clearly that God works with me. I am also learning that God is the source of all good, and that in proportion as we realize this and keep our thought receptive, it brings about the realization of all right desires.
