Extracts from Reports of Christian Science Committees on Publication for the Year Ended September 30, 1926

State of New York.

In recording the activities of the Committee on Publication for the fiscal year just ended I am grateful to say that the conditions are encouraging. The Cause established by our revered Leader has prospered in this state; and the growth in membership has been triple that of the preceding year. The attitude of the public press to-day toward our Leader and our Cause is frequently a source of satisfaction, and is due in a great measure to an effort to obey in letter and in spirit the instructions contained in our Church Manual, Article XXXIII, Section 2. Not infrequently representatives of the secular press ask for information from the Committee on Publication before publishing articles about Christian Science that they feel are inaccurate or untrue. Many favorable references that have appeared in the daily press and in the religious and medical publications have shown a greater friendliness.

The field has cooperated generously in placing subscriptions for our daily newspaper with editors who have expressed a desire to receive it. During the year just ended forty such subscriptions have been paid for by this office; and in each instance the Monitor in turn has been advertised by these papers. Excerpts from our weekly radiocast lecture are appearing in the rural press, even in communities where there are no Christian Science churches or societies. Many favorable references to the Monitor and its advocacy of clean journalism are received.
