I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing,...
I did not come into Christian Science for physical healing, although I have had many healings and many problems solved since taking up the study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I have been healed of a bad disposition, and to a certain extent of selfishness and bad temper; of ptomaine poisoning, sprains in both ankles; so-called stomach trouble, pneumonia, bronchial grippe, malignant diphtheria, and blood poisoning, which began in my thumb and started to go up my arm. Lost articles have been found. While suffering from pneumonia I was in the home of a medical doctor, and all prejudice there was overcome by a loving practitioner.
Just recently, in coming downstairs to answer the telephone in a hurry, I tripped and fell violently headlong down five steps, breaking a rail at the foot of the stairs. I was able in a few minutes to answer the telephone, which was still ringing, to rejoice that no bones were broken, and to walk up without assistance two flights of steps to my room within one half hour. The first thing I remember after landing was my repeating aloud "the scientific statement of being," as found in our textbook (p. 468), and knowing that I did breathe in divine Love, for the fall had apparently knocked the breath completely out of me. I have had practitioners for some of my problems, and others I have worked out by my own understanding of Truth. I am so thankful for the love and help expressed during this last experience, in the house where I now stay; also for the help always lovingly given whenever asked for by practitioners.
Christian Science was presented to me by a patient I nursed shortly after graduating from a hospital training school for nurses. I had never heard of it before; and although I did not understand it, I did not doubt its healing power. Strange to say, I did not take it up immediately, but waited for over twenty years before taking it up earnestly. Fear of giving up my profession or losing something seemed to hinder me. I find, however, that I have not given up anything, but have gained all good.
