I was attracted to Christian Science purely for its healing...
I was attracted to Christian Science purely for its healing efficacy. Like Job, my thought was, "Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!"
One of my first healings came through realizing that God did not ordain me to a weak; anaemic condition. I had always resigned myself to this illness, thinking it was only "my lot" and was "God-sent." Day by day, through the study of Christian Science, I am learning that my inheritance is from God and not from man, and am enjoying health, strength, freedom, and power which I never before experienced. My physical healing seemed slow, but now I can truthfully say I am "glad for every scalding tear," as Mrs. Eddy tells us in her Poems (p. 4). Many times the way has seemed long, lonely, and fruitless. The thought that urged me on was that "God is no respecter of persons," and that I would be healed, as others had been, when I did my part. Many times I have been thankful for this slow process, as it brought to me an understanding which I would not have experienced otherwise, but which has been a priceless pearl.
My father had for about fifteen years been suffering from what is pronounced creeping paralysis, with other complications. It finally affected his heart. We were told by physicians it would eventually go to the brain and then be fatal; and it was not long until he lost his mental control. As he was in my home, I then suggested Christian Science. All gladly agreed, so a practitioner was called and asked if he would take such a case. The reply was that he would, until my father was able to think for himself, and then he should choose the method of healing he desired. The heart condition was relieved in a few hours, and two days later my father was in his right mind, and has been ever since. He has also been healed of the taking of an alcoholic stimulant before each meal, which had been a habit with him for fifty years or more. These healings took place eight or ten years ago, and there has not been the slightest return of either. He is now eightyseven years of age.
