The Interpreter

Often in our journey along the way from sense to Soul we are beset by doubts as to our ability to discern Truth aright. One and another of our fellow travelers will from time to time, with a sincere desire to help, voice their concept of some statement of Truth made by our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," or in one of her other writings, and fear may beset us as to how to make these views, coming from those who we think know more than we ourselves do, coincide with our own views. We may think that with these differing opinions it is well-nigh impossible to get the right interpretation. If this state of thinking is allowed to continue, confusion and discouragement ensue, and healing is delayed.

"How is one to know which is correct when one hears many different explanations of a statement made by Mrs. Eddy?" was a question recently asked by a young student. The answer is that Truth correctly interpreted, either from the Bible or from Mrs. Eddy's writings, can be demonstrated; and demonstration is the only certain proof that our interpretation is correct.

In her Message to The Mother Church for 1900 (p. 5) Mrs. Eddy writes as follows: "The spiritual sense of the Scriptures understood enables one to utilize the power of divine Love in casting out God's opposites, called evils, and in healing the sick." Truth is unfolded to the thought which rejects error. And in her book "Retrospection and Introspection" (p. 83) we read, "The student may mistake in his conception of Truth, and this error, in an honest heart, is sure to be corrected."
