[Written for the Sentinel]

Our Prayer

When we think of mighty Moses
And the tribes of Israel,
How he led them unto Canaan
From the very depths of hell;
How he smote the rock for water,
How he talked with God until
All his countenance was shining
And his very soul was still—
Oh, we want to be like Moses!
Give us grace, O God, to be
Meek and mighty, just like Moses;
Give us, Lord, humility.

Oh, we long to be like Jesus;
For we want the Mind of Christ,
With its power and its glory
Won through solemn Eucharist!
We would walk upon the water,
Heal the sick, and raise the dead,
Feed the multitudes awaiting
Every day their daily bread.
Oh, we want to be like Jesus!
Give us light, O God, to see
All the vision of the mountain:
Teach us, Lord, simplicity!
