[Written for the Sentinel]

Our Prayer

When we think of mighty MosesAnd the tribes of Israel,How he led them unto CanaanFrom the very depths of hell; How he smote the rock for water,How he talked with God untilAll his countenance was shiningAnd his very soul was still—Oh, we want to be like Moses!Give us grace, O God, to beMeek and mighty, just like Moses;Give us, Lord, humility.

Oh, we long to be like Jesus; For we want the Mind of Christ,With its power and its gloryWon through solemn Eucharist! We would walk upon the water,Heal the sick, and raise the dead,Feed the multitudes awaitingEvery day their daily bread.Oh, we want to be like Jesus!Give us light, O God, to seeAll the vision of the mountain:Teach us, Lord, simplicity!
