It is a great comfort to know that God does indeed...
It is a great comfort to know that God does indeed answer the righteous prayers of men; and I feel that I was led to the study of Christian Science in answer to prayer.
From earliest childhood days I had suffered from anaemia, severe and constant headaches, insomnia, and extreme nervousness. Beginning at the age of eight years, I wore glasses for twelve years on account of structural defects in the eyes.
When a very young child, I heard my mother say that God is good and that He knows all. So I reasoned that if He is good and knows all, He must know about my suffering and would heal me. I prayed almost daily to be healed and to know more about God; visited the public library and read every book I could find containing Bible stories, and as I grew older commentaries on the Bible; but I was not healed. I had no faith in doctors or medicine; and because of this, I suppose, they never even temporarily relieved me of pain. However, I daily took the medicines prescribed for me, sometimes three kinds in a day, as I did not want to leave anything undone in my search for bodily peace. Even while but a child, I became despondent and melancholy, and finally began to pray to God fervently that I might die.
