God's Power to Save
Assuredly Isaiah was not doubting the power of God to save to the uttermost when he wrote, "Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear." And unquestionably he knew that men shut themselves out from God by erroneous thinking, and that they themselves are largely if not wholly responsible for the continuance of those inharmonious situations in which they may appear to be; for he writes immediately after the words just quoted, "But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear."
Christian Science has brought a great revelation of God to mankind. It shows Him to be eternal divine Love; omnipotent and omnipresent Spirit; perfect Mind; infinite good; the All-in-all. And it is this knowledge of God which, when applied to the human problem, whatever it may be, solves it. Truly the "Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save"—because God is omnipotent. But the truth is still hidden from many; and it is the province of Christian Science to reveal it to them, and to show them how to apply it for their redemption.
Now, what have men to be saved from? The question will be answered according to the particular need of the individual. One will say he needs salvation from disease; another, from sin; still another, from perhaps a belief of limitation. And it can also be answered broadly by saying that all need to be saved from some phase or other of evil; for disease, sin, sorrow, lack, and every other form of inharmony belong to the category of what mortals call evil. Evil, then, in the ultimate analysis, is what men have to be saved from.
