About eight years ago I was studying medicine in a hospital in this city. Upon entering this institution I was very happy, as this was my highest concept of a healing truth; and I therefore put all my energy and love in this direction. I was soon disillusioned as to its healing power, for the supposed fundamentals were forever changing, physicians themselves admitting that materia medica is not a science. It was at this period that a loving Christian Scientist gave me the literatue of Christian Science. I have since proved its teachings to be reasonable, logical, and demonstrable.

One of my first opportunities to prove Christian Science was before and at the birth of my little daughter. All false, man-made laws were disregarded. Instead thereof, the rules of Christian Science were applied. When the time came for the little one to make her entrance into the world, a loving practitioner was asked to give treatment. This was done absently. In a few hours the child was born. During this period no pain was felt. The experience itself was nothing compared to the spiritual uplift which I had received. No sweeter experience do I remember than that tranquil, peaceful, pure, and grateful uplift. Such comes only through the Christ-healing.

Since then I have had many proofs of the power of Christian Science to heal. One that stands out as the largest milestone in my journey from sense to Soul occurred a few months ago. Accidentally, a sharp instrument entered into my hand. As a result my hand, arm, and jaw were affected. The jaw was partially paralyzed and the lower extremities were swollen. A great sense of fear seemed to overwhelm me, but I suddenly realized that I was serving fear instead of God. Just then my little daughter, who now attends the Christian Science Sunday School, came running to me from some remote corner of the house, insisting that I sing "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power," written by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy (Poems, p. 4). This seemed impossible at first; but she insisted, and so I began to realize that this was the angel unaware. I took her up in my lap and sang as best I could under the circumstances. Each thought meant more to me than ever before. I become so conscious of the protecting thought in the last line of the second verse, "His arm encircles me, and mine, and all," that in a few moments the child was fast asleep and a great sense of peace prevailed over the household. With this came the perfect and instantaneous healing. The disfigurement also had disappeared.
