As I had been for several years in ill health, although I had tried many doctors and their remedies, my husband spoke to me of Christian Science; and I am most grateful to him for doing so, as it proved to be the turning point of my life. At that time I always felt miserable, and was unable to lead an active life to any extent. I went to see a Christian Science practitioner, and soon afterwards decided to give up doctors and have her help me. Previously, not really knowing anything about this teaching, I had said I could believe it might help nervous diseases, but not other forms of ill health. However, it was soon proved that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," as Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), for in a few days I was healed of internal difficulties for which I had taken medicine daily for years; and I have never had a dose since, now six years. Hay fever was soon overcome, and then followed the healing of internal inflammation and displacement, for which doctors had recommended various instruments of support; and I am now well and strong, rejoicing in the freedom of an active life. I noticed that these three complaints were overcome in the degree in which I least feared them.
In the following year our third child was born, and the loving help received from the same practitioner and a Christian Science nurse freed both the baby and me from many medical laws. There was very little suffering, and none of the old beliefs of weakness or after effects, which had seemed to give so much trouble after the births of the other two children. The baby was strong and healthy, and has continued to be so. During the past five years one can trace the unfolding of harmony in the home, as well as in one's physical well-being, in proportion to the understanding of God's law; and though I am grateful beyond words for the physical healing, it is the spiritual uplift which has brought the real peace and joy into my life.
When the boy was born, the nurse quoted the text from Malachi, "Prove me now herewith, saith the Lord;" and I acknowledged His mercies are beyond anything we can outline. To God for His love; to Christ Jesus our Way-shower; to Mrs. Eddy for her life of purity and unselfishness, which enabled her to reveal Christian Science, I am most deeply grateful. For the faithful, loving help and guidance of the practitioner; for the Bible, and all the Christian Science literature; for membership in The Mother Church and a Christian Science Society; for our services and Sunday school; and for the inestimable privilege of class instruction and helping in a Sunday school, I pray that my thanks may be shown by earnest endeavor to live that "loving life" which is "a psalm of gratitude."—(Mrs.) Phyllis M. Langley, Northwood, Middlesex, England.
