Some time ago, when I was working out a problem in...
Some time ago, when I was working out a problem in Christian Science, the weekly issue of the Sentinel was delivered to me. Opening it I turned first of all to the testimonies and had read but a part of one, when I received a thought which helped me so much that my problem was solved instantaneously. I was so grateful for the help that I resolved to testify in writing to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. At another time, when working for our little son, I picked up one of our periodicals and read an article which referred to the "Mother's Evening Prayer" by Mrs. Eddy (Poems, pp. 4, 5). The sense of peace and comfort which came to me on pondering the words of that poem lifted my thought. Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 400), "By lifting thought above error, or disease, and contending persistently for truth, you destroy error." Almost immediately the little fellow—restored to his normal condition—asked to be dressed.
Christian Science has healed many erroneous conditions in our home. Among these were ptomaine poisoning, kidney trouble, rheumatism, nervous troubles, pneumonia, and results from accidents. One experience taught me such a big lesson I should like to relate it, that it may help some one else. One night a member of the family came to my room because her ear was troubling her. As an infant she had suffered many days at a time with abscesses in the ears. Immediately those trying experiences presented themselves to my thought. I realized, however, that the condition could be healed quickly, and went to work as we are taught in Christian Science. In about two hours the abscess broke, and everything was all right. I was very grateful for this proof. Soon afterwards, however, our small boy manifested the same trouble, and I realized I had not learned all the necessary lessons from the first case. Work was begun for him, and there came to me very clearly the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement is Science and Health (p. 270), "Disease is mental." If mental, then no evil manifestation could express itself. Then all symptoms disappeared.
I am very grateful for the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church. When a lecture is given, no one knows how far-reaching the blessing from it is. Not only those who hear the lecture are blessed, but they carry some part of the message to some one else. It was through a lecture that I became interested in Christian Science. I did not hear the lecture myself, but some one else did. This person knew nothing of Christian Science, but I was told that if what the lecturer said was the truth, I could be helped through Christian Science. I asked for help, and was instantaneously healed of a miserable condition. The day the practitioner came to see me I could do very little for myself. I was healed, and the next day I went on the electric car to her office. I then began to study to gain an understanding of what had healed me.
