Letters from the Field

[Extracts from letters written by the General Committee on Christian Science Welfare Work at San Diego, California]

"Upon call from the Christian Science organizations of San Diego and vicinity to the churches and societies of southern California, a conference met in San Diego, May 27, 1924. The result of that conference was the formation of the General Committee on Christian Science Welfare Work at San Diego, consisting of seven members chosen from different parts of the field by the churches in these localities. The committee is now functioning.

"This work among Christian Scientists was first begun by the activity of healing and the administration of kind deeds performed for soldiers and sailors during the late war. That work is yet unfinished. Aside from the able-bodied men, there are to-day thousands of soldiers whose condition, while generally forgotten by the world, is a problem constantly and poignantly impressed upon their thought. It should be remembered that Army and Navy men are under authority as no other men are. This very fact necessitates that we bring the truth to them, and thus overcome the barriers which hinder their coming to us.
