In a recent issue of the Herald, a clergyman is reported to have made a number of statements derogatory to Christian Science, in an attempt to discredit the teachings of Christian Science and to reflect upon the intellingence of its followers. For more than fifty years similar efforts have been made by unenlightened or prejudiced ministers and evangelists regarding Christian Science, but notwithstanding these unkind attacks the Christian Science movement has continued to develop and grow until now it has established churches in many parts of the world, and its adherents are numbered by the million. Jesus gave the only true test of any religion. It was, "By their fruits ye shall know them": their works shall be attested by "signs following." What are the "fruits" of Christian Science, and what are the "signs following"?

Thousands of authenticated cases of healing and salvation through Christian Science have been recorded and proved to the world beyond the question of a doubt. Thousands of intelligent men and women have accepted the teachings of Christian Science after careful study and research; and the teachings of this Science have completely changed the lives and thoughts of multitudes of honest, conscientious seekers after truth. Christian Science has proved its teachings by its results, and has brought to mankind health instead of sickness, love instead of hate, peace instead of discord, joy and happiness instead of sorrow and misery, hope and plenty instead of want and despair, understanding instead of ignorance, and life instead of death. Should Christian Science be reviled and condemned for bringing these blessings into the lives of its adherents?

When John sent his disciples to inquire of Jesus if he were the Messiah, Jesus did not enter into an argument with them over their creed or doctrine, but said, "Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them." On another occasion Jesus said: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
