The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Boston, Massachusetts (Second Church).

Lecturer: Algernon Hervey Bathurst; introduced by H. Bruce Fletcher, who said:—

The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, writes on page 98 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Beyond the frail premises of human beliefs, above the loosening grasp of creeds, the demonstration of Christian Mind-healing stands a revealed and practical Science." My first experience with the practicability of the healing power of Christian Science came nearly twenty years ago. I remained late one day at the office to help with a certain piece of work which had to be done before the next morning. Early in the evening a wire nail became embedded in my left arm at the elbow. My associates were much concerned, and very insistent that I have the arm properly cared for. After removing the nail and covering the arm, I succeeded in quieting their fears for the time, and called for help in Christian Science, having witnessed the healing of a member of my family through this truth. At the time of calling I was beginning to lose the use of my fingers, and the arm was badly swollen. Almost immediately I was able to continue my part of the work, and remained until its conclusion. The next morning my arm was normal, with the exception of a slight appearance, and no further trouble developed. Since that time I have proved that Christian Science is the only practical help in any need. For a sick body, a sick mentality, or a sick business, this help is always available.
