My storehouse of blessings is so filled that I should like to...
My storehouse of blessings is so filled that I should like to share them with others. I was under the care of two doctors in 1914, when Christian Science was first presented to us. I was ready to accept it in all its entirety; and from that time it has met my every need. I have been healed of many so-called chronic and acute diseases, and am grateful to have been healed of the fear of disease. Before learning of Christian Science I never knew what it was to be well or happy; but since I have found the truth which makes free, I am well and also happy. As soon as I took up Christian Science I was ready to throw away all the medicine that was in the house, and have not used any since. I am convinced that whenever Christian Science has been rightly applied, it has never failed.
In March, 1920, the power of Truth was surely proved to us. We have natural gas in the furnace, and for some unknown reason it had been out for several hours. As it was getting cold in the house, I went to light it, but as soon as I struck the match there was an explosion. My clothes caught fire, and I was very badly burned; my face, arms, hands, and neck were in a terrible condition. Without the power of Truth, the house and I, too, surely would have been burned up; but instantly the thought came, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil," and, "He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways." Angels are "God's thoughts," as Mrs. Eddy tells us in the definition of "angels" on page 581 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures;" so I declared that God, good, is the All-power, and that "God's thoughts"—good thoughts—would deliver me from the fiery furnace. I do not know just how I put the fire out; it was about half an hour before I could see the telephone to call for treatment. It was two hours before I had any relief at all. During that time the tempter got busy in my thought saying the practitioner would not be able to help me. Then I had to work constantly to know that it was not person but the understanding of divine Principle, God, and of man, that did the healing. Jesus said, "I can of mine own self do nothing;" and on another occasion, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." I knew the work is ours, but the strength and power are God's. We of ourselves can do nothing; we must let the Father dwell in us if we want to be disciples and do the work the Master left for us to do. About two hours after I called for help, suddenly the pain nearly all left me. I had only four treatments. All I used during the healing was soap and water to keep the wounds clean. I used no bandages at all. In three weeks no one could see that I had been badly burned. There are no scars left.
For the daily blessings of Christian Science I am indeed grateful, and I am striving to prove my gratitude in daily life. I am especially grateful for class instruction; to our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for having discovered this truth for us; and for the Church Manual, which she left for our guidance.
