I should like to tell of the beautiful experience I had in...
I should like to tell of the beautiful experience I had in learning about Christian Science. I suddenly became desirous to know what Christian Science meant and what it taught. After making inquiries as to the literature, I finally borrowed "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy; and from the first hour of reading it I knew Christian Science was the truth. In a very short time I was able to discern something of the spiritual idea, or the Christ. Each day I had some opportunity to demonstrate the allness of God, good, and to prove that His promises are indeed true. I soon found from experience that God really has given man dominion over all evil; and through the right understanding of God as the only cause and of man as God's spiritual idea forever reflecting the Father, I was able to have dominion over the aster blight, which was very prevalent in America that year, over cut-worms, which before I came into Science were very destructive in our garden, and over mice and other so-called pests, knowing always that God's ideas have no power to torment man, and that God never made pests, but only that which is good. I also proved the power of correct thinking at a time when a raging fire in an excelsior mill seemed unconquerable. I realized that God knew nothing about the fire, and that what He did not make had no law with which to operate. I then asked myself the question, Who said there was a fire? And the answer was, Mortal mind. And again I realized what Jesus said about this so-called mind, that it was a liar from the beginning. Almost immediately the flames were quelled.
We have had many beautiful healings within the five years I have been in Christian Science. Influenza, mumps, burns, a severe scald, an ulcerated tooth, sprains, a fractured bone, and other discords have been healed by knowing the truth as taught in Christian Science. I am truly grateful for this beautiful knowledge of law and order, which is always available when we know how to use it.
I am also grateful for class instruction, which was the crowing unfoldment of my spiritual understanding; for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; for our Leader; and for the Church Manual, which makes very clear to us that life, as God knows it, is an hourly demonstration of Truth and Love as taught in Christian Science.—
