I have long felt the desire to express my gratitude for the many blessings I have received through my understanding of Christian Science. Since a little child I had been a sufferer from hay fever and asthma in their most malignant forms, at times being almost blind and unable to lie down to sleep. I had been under treatment by many well-known physicians, all of whom tried every new remedy, but nothing gave me relief. Each year I went to the northern woods, where for a few years the supposed climatic conditions were beneficial; but in time this effect wore away. At a little resort in northern Wisconsin, when all material help had been exhausted and I was critically ill, a kind gentleman, almost a stranger, came to offer Christian Science, telling me that "with God all things are possible," and that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." This seemed to fit my case exactly, and I was advised to wire to Chicago to a practitioner for absent treatments. This to me seemed strange, as this dear lady, too, was a stranger to me. However, I did so; and after a little while I was able to be out and motor through the country over the dusty roads, and do many things that previously had been forbidden. From this time on I became interested in Christian Science. The sowing of the first seed led me to the God who is ever present, instead of the God I had been taught to fear, who was in a far-off heaven; and the harvest of many blessings, physical and spiritual, that have come from this understanding is beyond all description.

When influenza appeared in this city, I fell a victim. Although seemingly in a serious condition, I steadfastly clung to what I knew of God and of man as His image and likeness and to the thought that God is Life eternal. With this and the help of a loving practitioner, who led me to a better understanding that God is All-in-all, the one infinite good, the only cause, or creator, the only presence, power, or influence, the source of all that really is, I was beautifully healed. I am indeed grateful to God; to Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy; and to the practitioner.
