I should like to express my gratitude for what Christian Science...

I should like to express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and mine. In March, 1916, my wife had a very severe attack of rheumatism. I called a physician, and he prescribed some medicine for her, which she took; but she grew worse from day to day. A friend asked me to try Christian Science, but I was very much opposed to it, not knowing what it was.

When the physician came to our house again I asked him if he could cure my wife. He said it would take about two years or more; so I became very much dissatisfied, and one morning I said to myself, "I wish God would help me;" and at once the thought came to me, Why not try Christian Science? I went upstairs and asked my wife if she would try Christian Science. She said, "I do not know how a prayer can heal anybody." I said, "If it does not help you, it cannot harm you." So with her consent I sent for a practitioner. By the first of June, 1916, she was healed. What a blessing it was in our home to see her walk again!

I went to the Reading Room and borrowed a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I read this book for about four weeks, and was cured of the habit of chewing tobacco. One afternoon I took some of my tobacco, and the taste was so disagreeable that I had to throw it away. I went to a person on the same floor, and asked him for some of his tobacco, saying that some one had put something in mine; but his tobacco had the same taste. I had no more desire for tobacco from that time on.
