Christian Science practitioners never attempt "to acquire...
Daily Star
Christian Science practitioners never attempt "to acquire the title of doctor," and never make use of the title as do those who rely upon material remedies in the treatment of disease. Their healing work is done through the application of an understood spiritual law, and no one who asks them for help is ever deceived as to the means or methods employed.
To be prepared to pass an examination on anatomy, physiology, and kindred subjects, would in no wise aid the Christian Science practitioner in his work. Christian Scientists rely upon the divine Principle, through the understanding of which Jesus healed "all manner of disease." Without the use of material remedies of any kind, the Master healed the sick, cleansed the leper, and restored sight to the blind; and he said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." This promise was not given to the disciples alone, but to all that "believeth on me" throughout all time. Christian Science teaches that sickness and suffering are the result of wrong thinking; that God created all that is, and "saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." On page 472 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy says: "Sickness, sin, and death, being inharmonious, do not originate in God nor belong to His government. His law, rightly understood, destroys them."
Christian Science heals the sick and reforms the sinner, but the method is purely spiritual. It follows, therefore, that a knowledge of anatomy and bacteriology would be of no avail to the Christian Science practitioner. Christian Scientists find no fault with those who wish to rely upon material remedies in the healing of disease. They do not believe in "state medicine," so called, but contend that every one should be free to select the healing agency he desires.
