A letter from my brother, while we were in the army,...

A letter from my brother, while we were in the army, was the means of my introduction to Christian Science. After discharge from the army, I attended the services and the Wednesday evening testimony meetings, more with a view to criticism than with any idea of spiritual advancement or physical healing. However, I soon realized that the teachings of Christian Science, as set forth in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, were purely logical, and based upon the foundation of Truth. All thought of criticism fell away from me, and my regret was that I did not make the progress I desired; but "Rome was not built in a day," nor does a mathematical student in the elementary stage expect to solve at once intricate and difficult problems, which call for the wisdom and experience of a more advanced student.

I have had several healings in Christian Science, the last and most notable ones being those of so-called hereditary constipation and stones in the bladder. Shortly before Christmas, 1920, I was compelled to stay away from my business on account of the last-named difficulty. Partly to obtain a medical certificate, and partly to allay the fear of my wife, who was a believer in materia medica, I received treatment from a medical practitioner, who diagnosed my case as I have stated. About a week later I returned to business, feeling somewhat better, but not fit; and after the lapse of a few weeks I again became subject to the same disease.
