The Lectures
Saginaw, Mich. (First Church).—Mrs. Amy Weathers made the following prefatory remarks at a Christian Science lecture by Ezra W. Palmer:—
Centuries ago Cicero made the statement, "In a disturbed mind, as in a body in the same state, health cannot exist." Events in history prove that the human consciousness, even when actuated by its highest idea of right, is not reliable: humanity must look above and beyond itself. Jesus the Christ demonstrated an infallible rule, later referred to by the Apostle James when he said, "If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well." In this age this rule has been reduced, in Christian Science, to a scientific understanding, which enables each individual to govern his consciousness and actions aright.
